Sudbury author Danielle Daniel releases 'The Dependent,' memoir of a military wife

What may have seemed like the end was, in fact, just the beginning of a new chapter for a Sudbury, Ont., author whose new memoir chronicles her life as the wife of a paralyzed Canadian soldier.

'It really was an act of survival for me to write this book'

What may have seemed like the end was, in fact,just the beginning of a new chapter for a Sudbury, Ont., author whose new memoirchronicles herlife as the wife of a paralyzed Canadianparatrooper.

Danielle Daniel is officially launching her bookThe Dependenton Friday.

The author and artist whose previous work includes the children's bookSometimes I Feel Like a Fox is married to retired Sgt. Steve Daniel. Aparachuting accident in 2005 left him paralyzed from the waist down.

"In one single day, everything changed," said Daniel of the dayshe got the call about Steve's accident.

What followed, she said,were many weeksaway from home and their toddler son, Owenwhile Steve worked through rehabilitation in southern Ontario.

That's when she said she faced bouts of depression and a period of timein which the pair separated.

"We did go through a very, very difficult time ... it really was an act of survival for me to write this book," she said.

"At first it was an act of therapy. It then became an act of art."
