Next week, the M'Chigeeng First Nation Industrial Wind Turbine will officially open on Manitoulin Island and Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki will be in attendance.

However, members of the Manitoulin Coalition for Safe Energy Alternatives are not in full support of the project.

Raymond Beaudry, a member of the coalition, said he hopes Suzuki "recognizes the importance of striking a balance between industrial wind and placing them in key habitat and prime eco-system locations."

He said Manitoulin Island is just one of many wind turbine sites that are being set up throughout the province of Ontario.

Beaudry noted industrial windfarms have several environmental and economic impacts, and the ones on Manitoulin Island are in key areas ofanimalspecies at risk.
