Elliot Lake's Walter Blight, 72, dies in Hwy 69 crash

Police have identified the 72-year-old Elliot Lake man who died Thursday morning after his van crashed head-long into a transport truck on Highway 69.

Collision happened just south of the Killarney turn-off, closed road for about eight hours

Police haveidentified the 72-year-old Elliot Lake man who died earlyThursday morning after his van crashed head-long into a transport truck on Highway 69, just south of the Killarneyturnoff.

Shortly before 2 a.m., Walter George Blight's southbound Chevrolet van crossed the centre line and strucka 2014Freightlinertransport truck that wasnorthboundon Highway 69, about 3 kmsouth of Highway 637, Sudbury OPP report.The crash happenedin the two-lane construction zone.

Blight was pronounced deadat the scene. The driver of the transport truck suffered minor injuries.

Highway 69 north and south bound lanes were closed in both directions for nine hours while the investigation of the collision was being conducted.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Sudbury OPP with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit.
