Provincial test highlights show Grade 10 literacy levels 'high and stable'

As teachers and students prepare for the upcoming school year, boards across the city are waiting for the results of the 2016-17 Education Quality Assessment Office (EQAO) standardized test scores.

As teachers and students prepare for the upcoming school year, boards across the city are waiting for the results of the 2016-17 Education Quality AssessmentOffice (EQAO) standardized test scores.

The tests in reading, writing and math are given to Grade 3 and6 students across the province.Grade 9 students are tested in math, while Grade 10 students in literacy.

TheEQAOreleased highlights from its 2016-17 provincial reading and writing tests,showing the vast majority 102,530 students, or 81 per cent were successful in the tests.

The literacyrate has been more or less the same between 81 and 83 per cent for the past five years.

In its report highlighting test scores, the EQAO said they have remained "relatively high and stable" over the last five years.

Highlights from Grade 3, 6, and 9math tests will be released next week.

In an email to CBC News, Mark Ruban, EQAO's manager of communications, said the full results of the test including a board-by board breakdown of resultswill be made available to the public on September 20.

  • In an earlier version of this story, CBC News incorrectly reported 2015-16 EQAO results for Sudbury's school boards as this year's results. The 2017 results for individual boards and schools will be released in September.
