Worker killed at Nickel Rim South mine in Sudbury

A worker at Glencore's Nickel Rim South mine in Sudbury was killed sometime Tuesday morning.

The Ministry of Labour said the worker was struck by a piece of equipment while underground.

The name of the man has not been released, but ina statement, Glencore said the family of the deceased was notified.

The death markedthe first fatality at a mine in Sudbury this year.

Greater Sudbury Police and union representatives wereon the scene investigating and are working in conjunction with the Ministry of Labour.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

All shifts at Nickel Rim South mine are cancelled until further notice.
