WEATHER

TODAY: Mainly cloudy with the chance of flurries or showers. North Bay can expect some snow this afternoon. Skies should clear this afternoon over Sault Ste. Marie the north shore, Elliot Lake and Manitoulin Island. Highs from 1 C to 6 C.

TONIGHT: Lows from 1 C to -6 C.

TOMORROW: Sunshine tomorrow morning for Sudbury, North Bay up to Kirkland Lake with increasing cloud and the chance of showers. The rest of northeastern Ontario will be cloudy with rain developing through the day. Warmer with highs from 6 C to 9 C.


NEWS

ATHLETICS:Laurentian University is breaking its silence over reports of athlete suspensions. It confirms some players on the men's basketball team have been reprimanded following an investigation into a violation of the Athlete Code of Conduct. A story published earlier this week by the university's student newspaper claimed five players were suspended over hazing allegations.

MENTAL HEALTH: Six months after declaring a suicide crisis, Attawapiskat still doesn't have permanent mental health workers on the group. The North East LHIN says the problem is there isn't enough housing.

SHELTER: Both proposals that were submitted to the City of Greater Sudbury to run its emergency overnight winter shelter were strong. That's what Sudbury's Coordinator of Shelters and Homelessness programs says following the awarding of the contract. This week, the city awarded the contract to the Canadian Mental Health Association over the Salvation Army.

EDUCATION: Morning North is broadcasting live from Cambrian College today where being a student is no longer just for someone in their late teens and early 20s. High school students now account for only one-third of college applicants in Ontario.

HEALTH: About 200 community service providers in Sudbury have signed up to learn how to prevent older adults from falling. A conference is being held today at the Steelworkers Hall.


ROADS & HIGHWAYS

GARSON: There will be lane reductions for paving on Skead Road until November 4. Expect traffic delays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

SUDBURY:Municipal Road 80 - Notre Dame/Maley Drive interchange: work has begun on theMaley Drive extension. The northbound outside lane on MR 80, north of Turner Avenue will be closed for drilling and blasting.Work will be done weekdays from 7 a.m. to3 p.m. until the end of November.
