Sudbury Daystarter: School bus cancellations due to winter-like storm

Everything you need to kick off your weekday mornings in northeastern Ontario.

BUSES

School buses are cancelled this morning for:

  • Sudbury, Espanola, Massey and Manitoulin Island;
  • Nipissing corridor including Sturgeon Falls, North Bay and Mattawa south to Parry Sound;
  • All four school boards from Kirkland Lake to Temagami (schools remain open except for Temagami, Elk Lake and Kerns)

WEATHER

Storm warning for Espanola, Killarney, Sudbury, West Nipissing, North Bay, Temagami and New Liskeard.
An additional 10 to 15 cm of snow and blowing snow is expected , tapering off this evening.

Special weather statement for Kirkland Lake and Englehart.
An additional 5 to 10 cm of snow and blowing snow today, tapering off this evening.

TODAY: Southern and eastern sections of northeastern Ontario can expect more snow and blowing snow. For Timmins there's the chance of flurries. Kapuskasing and Hearst will be cloudy. Wawa and the James Bay coast will be sunny. Highs today from -6 C to 0 C. Along James Bay highs of -10 C.

TONIGHT: Lows from -9 C in Sudbury to -20 C in Moosonee.

TOMORROW: A mix of cloud and sun for most regions. Mainly cloudy for Manitoulin, Elliot Lake the north shore, Kapuskasing and Hearst. Highs from -12 C to -1 C.


NEWS

PM VISIT:Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to visit Sudbury city hall todayas part of his northern tour. People are hoping he will make a major infrastructure investment. READ MORE

COURT:Michael Tomasikcould take the stand today in a Sudbury courtroom to explain why he told several people that he wanted to abduct children and have sex with them. The 35-year-old is facing 10 charges, including production of child pornography and arranging to have sex with a minor.

AWARD:The Ontario Association of Architects is giving a Sudbury church a landmark designation. That means it considers St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church an icon in the community.


ROADS & HIGHWAYS

Highways are snow covered on Manitoulin Island, Sudbury south to Parry Sound, North Bay south to Huntsville and north to TemiskamingShores. Visibility is fair to poor at times.

Highway 522 is closed at Golden Valley due to flooding damage. Detour for small vehicles viaCommandaLake Road.
