Sudbury library cracks open 25-year-old time capsule

The city of Greater Sudbury opened a 25 year-old time capsule Tuesday at its main library branch.

The library system is celebrating 100 years of existence and part of that celebration involves opening a capsule from 1987.

Included in the box were items likea loonie, several issues of local newspapers and an advertising flyer for Sudbury Downs.

Ron Henderson, director of Library Services with the city, said staff will create a new time capsule to be opened in 25 years.

"In 2037... I'm thinking if we put a DVD in there, for instance, in 2037 someone might say what's that? Who knows what 2037 is going to be about," Henderson said.

The last capsule was kept in the library's basement for the last 25 years.
