Sudbury Farmers Market working group looks at big changes for 2017

Sudbury Farmers Market vendors are being asked to weigh in on some new plans for the 2017 season.

Amanda LeClair is the executive director with Eat Local Sudbury. Her organization is one of several partners that run the farmers' market.

She says a few changes are being proposed, including offering a weekday market.

"Something that we've heard from the community for a couple years now and from the producers and the vendors is they really want a weekday market," she told CBC News.

"In the summer, people leave for camp. So we're missing out on the folks who are leaving out of town, but still need to eat. So the Thursday night market on York Street that's being proposed to council, would be really, really fantastic."

The group is also looking at dropping the Sunday farmers market, while keeping the more popular Saturday market in place.

"We're really excited about it," LeClair continued.

"We've seen, with very clear numbers over last season, that Saturdays are just above and beyond much more popular than Sundays. So it makes sense to focus all of our energy on that one day."

Farmers Market vendors are invited to an open house Wednesdayto further explore the plans for the 20-17 market season.

The meeting will be held at Tom Davies Square.
