Sudbury to host the Ontario 55+ Summer Games in August

Sudbury will host the 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games in August with the help of a $235,000 investment from the province.

The competition features 18 disciplines sports includingcycling, swimming, golf and tennis, along with several card games, includingcribbage and euchre.

The goal of the Ontario 55+ Summer Games is to provide people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in different sport and recreation activities, according to a news release from the province.

"This is an exciting opportunity not only to showcase our vibrant community, but also to draw visitors from across the province," Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre said in a news release.

"Hosting these Games allows us to continue growing our capacity for large-scale sports tourism events, generating economic benefits and cultivating community collaboration."

Ontario Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden, said in a news release that the event will serve a dual purpose.

They're "another great example of our work to maximize the economic impact of sport tourism in Ontario and help older adults lead healthier, more active lives," Lumsden said.

The provincial government saidhosting the event is expected to generate more than $1.5 million in economic benefits for Sudbury and its surrounding communities.
