Greater Sudbury Police will testdashboard cameras in four cruisers this year.

But as the test gets underway, there are some concerns about the new technology.

At the Sudbury Police Services Board meeting Thursday, there was discussion of thecost of data storage for the video footage collected and privacy concerns aroundwhat is caught on camera.

"It's still a very, very new area for policing so I think we're getting some good information [about dashboard cameras], but by the same token we'll also be developing a number of our own procedures," saidSharonBaiden, the Chief Administrative Officer for Greater Sudbury Police.

Greater Sudbury Police are also contemplating when it will start testing body cameras on officers.

The small cameras usually attached to an officer's clothing for surveillance purposes are being tested in various police organizations across the country.

Meanwhile, police in Sudbury are nearly ready to start usingtasers.

The last day to train officers with the equipment is April 20. Tasers will be used by the force from then on.
