After more than ten years away from the Nickel City, flights to resume in February

Sudbury flyers will now have another option when travelling to Toronto. Calgary-based WestJet announced today that it will begin offering flights between the Sudbury airport and Pearson International Airport in Toronto, starting Feb. 3.

The flights will be operated by WestJet Encore and by May will be increasing to three daily flights.

In 2003, WestJet suspended its Sudbury flights citing weak demand and high government taxes.

The extra competition will be liberating for Sudbury flyers, executive vice-president Bob Cummings said in a press release.

"WestJet is enriching lives and liberating Canadians coast to coast from the high cost of air travel," Cummings said, "[and]combined with the extended reach of our more than 40 airline partners around the world, getting around just got a whole lot easier for northerners."
