Municipal Golf Course may have one more lease on life after city councillors spent almost two hours behind closed doors Monday night talking about its future.

Many of the golfers in council chambers were surprised to hear Coun. Trevor Giertuga say council wouldn't make any final decision on the golf course this week after previously voting to shut down the nine-hole course to save money.

"There's no point in dealing with it if there's a motion coming forward next week to reverse [the decision]," he said.

During the closed door meeting, Coun. Andrew Foulds brought forward a motion to rescind the decision made in April to close the course.

"I feel very strongly about public services. I feel very strongly about recreational services," Foulds said.

"This is our last chance to save Municipal Golf Course."

The leader of the group that wants the course kept up and running said he's pleased with the last-minute decision.

"The fact that they're reconsidering their decision is a victory for us, absolutely," Jules Tupker said. "I certainly look at this as a positive thing. We'll find out, I guess in a month from now ah, what happens." The motion to rescind the decision will officially get on the council agenda next week.

However the real decision will come on Oct. 15, when councillors will hear from the golfing community and will make the final choice on keeping the course open, or selling it off.
