Quetico Park canoeist dies after tree falls on tent

A canoeist from West Virginia died this week after a large portion of a tree fell at campsite on Point Lake in Quetico Provincial Park.

Police say American man was sleeping in his tent in a storm when a tree fell.

Ontario Provincial Police have releaseddetails about a fatalincident in Quetico Provincial Park.

A 63-year-old American visitor died this week after a tree fell on his tent during a storm.

Police say they received a call for help Tuesday morning.

A group of canoersreported their companion was unresponsive after beinghit by a tree while sleeping at a campsite at Point Lake, and that their lifesaving efforts had been unsuccessful.

OPP flew to the scene in a Ministry of Natural Resources helicopter.

Police say a post-mortem conducted in Kenora determined that Charles Emerson Showalter of WheelingWest Virginiahad succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the incident.
