Two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 leaves one dead

Atikokan man dies at the scene after a collision on Highway 17 about 40 kilometres west of Ignace, Ont.

One person is dead after a collision onHighway 17 about 40 kilometres west of Ignace, Ont.

The victim has been identified as an Atikokan man, 57 year old Danny Henderson.

Ontario Provincial Police in Dryden say two passenger vehicles collided at about 7:30 a.m. CT on Thursday.

Henderson was driving a westbound van that collidedwith an eastbound pickup truck carrying two people. He died at the scene, while the two other people suffered non-life-threatening injjuries.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed while police conducted their investigation, but they said they hoped to open the road to one lane sometime Thursday afternoon,.
