Putting a damper on summer: Thunder Bay, Ontario records wettest June ever

Thunder Bay is closing the umbrella on the wettest June on record for the northwestern Ontario city. Environment Canada isn't giving a final tally for the month yet, because there are more showers forecast for Thursday, but measurements at the airport have already exceeded the record for June precipitation.

Canada Day weekend forecast for mainly sunny skies, but effects of the system will linger into early July

The previous mark was set in 2008 with 194 mm.

The system bringing all the rain in June will continue to affect the northwest in early July, although the Canada Day weekend is expected to be sunny and warm, said Geoff Coulson, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada.

Temperatures for July are trending hotter than normal, but the models for conditions after the first week of the montharen't clear.

"That track still looks like it's going to be a factor for the weather at least through the first part of July," Coulson said, "so there could be more in the way of shower activity and occasionally some intense thunderstorm activity."
