A statue of one of the last Beothuk families now overlooks their traditional land, after the Town of Botwood unveiled a bronze sculpture in their likeness on Monday.

The mayor of a central Newfoundland town says a Beothuk memorial site that's under construction will be ready for its unveiling on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation next month, despite a recent act of vandalism.

Gearoid McCarthy grew up in a small town in Ireland surrounded by music and folklore. One of the stories he heard over and over was about the role his town played in a historic flight from Newfoundland. The Irish musician is in Newfoundland this month to explore those connections.
