Bloor Street bike lane study clears committee

The city of Toronto's public works committee has approved an environmental assessment to study the feasibility of installing a bike lane along Bloor Street.

The study which if approved would take about a year to complete will investigate the possibility of putting a bike lane along Bloor from west of Keele Street in the city's west end to east of Sherbourne Street. The study will alsoexamine installing a bike lane on Dupont Street.

In 2011, council voted to scrap a similar study.

CBC city hall reporter Jamie Strashin said the study will still need to be approved at council.

"It's expected to be a contentious issue, as all cycling issues are," he reported.

The study will also be complicated, due to the traffic congestion along the route.
