Man dead after shooting in Brampton, police say

A man who died in Brampton on Saturday followinginitial reports of a "possible stabbing" was actually shot, Peel police say.

Peel Regional Police Const. Tyler Bell said officers and EMS were called to the area of Chadwick Street and Lockwood Road shortly after 3 p.m. for a medical assist call outside of a residence.

"Preliminary information that was provided to us was that there was a male in the street suffering from serious injuries," Bell said.

First responders arrived on scene and started life-saving measuresbuta man in his 30shas since been pronounced deceased.

"What was initially believed to be injuries sustained by stabbing has since been determined to be gunshot wounds," Bell added.

Peel Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau is carrying out the investigation, Bell said.

Peel police said investigators are unsure of what led to the shooting and are working to determine what kind of interaction occurred with the suspect or suspects.

The victim doesn't appear to be from the neighbourhood where he was shot, Bell said.

"Right now, we have varying reports about what lead up to the incident, so we don't know if the suspects were on foot or in a vehicle. Once we get that information we'll relay that," he said.

DavanderjitSingh lives nearby and was home around the time the shooting happened. He says he was taking out the garbage when he saw several police cars and emergency vehicles outside.

He said the incident makes him worry about safety in the neighbourhood.

"It's kind of a sad thing. Crimes are increasing day by day, and it's kind of a very bad thing for us," he said.

Meanwhile, police are investigating another shooting in Brampton's north end on Saturday. That shooting happened a few hours earlier in the area of Inder Heights Drive and Mayfield Road.

Police say a man was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Bell said police do not have any information to suggest that the two incidents are related.

Police have yet to identify both victims. Theyare asking anyone with information, including video surveillance or dashcam footage, to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
