Beer and cider are coming to more grocery stores in the GTA ahead of Canada Day

Ontario residents will have more choice when it comes to buying alcohol with beer and cider coming to even more grocery stores just in time for Canada Day.

The province announced on Tuesday that 76 additional independent and large grocery stores will be authorized to sell beer and cider beginning on June 30.

That's in addition to the 130 grocery stores in the province that are already allowed to sell beer and cider - with 70 of those also selling wine -bringing the total number of storesto 206.

Loblaws, Sobeys, and Walmart Supercentrelocationsare among the new storesacross the Greater Toronto Area.

The province launched the program inDecember2015, andis ultimately aimingfor beer and cider sales at 450 grocery stores.

Grocery stores that sell beermust followstrict rulesset out by the province. Beer must be stocked in designated areas, can only be sold in six-packs and singles, and costs the same as beer at LCBOstores. Grocery stores cannot sell beer stronger than 7.1 per cent alcohol by volume.
