City garbage truck stunt a misuse of resources, Milczyn says

Provincial Liberal candidate Peter Milczyn says he will file a complaint with Toronto's integrity commissioner over an alleged misuse of city resources after a garbage truck contracted by the citywas requested for a Progressive Conservative photo-op.

On Wednesday, PC Etobicoke-Lakeshore byelection candidate Doug Holyday and Party Leader Tim Hudak held a tongue-in-cheek press conference in front of a Green For Life (GFL) garbage truck prominently displaying the City of Toronto logo.

GFL is contracted by the city for residential garbage collection in the city's west end. The company was awarded the contact over unionized city workers last year. Mayor Rob Ford, whoran on a pro-privatization mayoralty campaign,called it a "great day for the city of Toronto" when GFLtook over the contract.

Milczyn is now calling on the Holyday an ally of Ford who served as his deputy mayorto clarify the use of city resources.

In a message posted to his website, Milczyn says the Holyday campaign should "declare (Wednesday) mornings stunt as a campaign expense when they file their campaign expenses statement to Elections Ontario."

"For someone who claims to have respect for the office he is elected to, it surprises me that Mr. Holyday would leverage his position as deputy mayor to Rob Ford for partisan purposes," Milczyn said in a statement.

Milczyn said he plans to file a formal complaint with the City of Torontos Integrity Commissioner and Lobbyist registrar to request an investigation into the incident.

A report in the Toronto Star on Wednesday said GFL approved sending a truck to the press conference after receiving a request from a Holyday staffer.
