Ontario reports 340 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths on Sunday

Ontario reported 340new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

The province will release its plan for administering third doses of COVID-19 vaccine this week, afterCanada's National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI)recommended booster shots for adults aged 80 and older.

The province's plan will include "information to all Ontarians on when they can expect to receive a third dose" of COVID-19 vaccine,Health Minister Christine Elliott said in a tweet following the release of new guidance from NACI.

Booster shots against COVID-19 are currently only offered to long-term care residents, transplant recipients, some cancer patients and people receiving specific medications in Ontario.

Meanwhile, the province logged two more deaths, pushing the death toll to 9,871.

Of the new cases, 223 cases are in individuals who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status while117are in fully vaccinated individuals.

The seven-day average of new daily cases in the province fell to 349.

Patients in ICUwith COVID-related illnesses: 133, with 88needinga ventilator.

Tests completed in previous24 hours: 25,707, with a 1.7per cent positivity rate.

Active cases: 3,015.

Vaccinations: 15,740 doses were administered by public health units on Saturday. About 84.5per cent of eligible Ontarians, those aged 12 and older, have now had two doses of vaccine.
