Cyclist struck, seriously injured in Mississauga

A Mississauga cyclist suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening.

A Mississauga cyclist suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicleWednesday evening.

Peel Regional Police said the middle-aged male cyclist was struck on southbound Southdown Road, near the intersection with Royal Windsor Drive which becomes Lakeshore Road West, around 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the cyclist remained at the scene.

The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his lower extremities, police said.

The scene of the collision remains cordoned off while police investigate.

The area is a popular thoroughfare for road bike riders training between Toronto and Oakville.
