Toronto police say the 2012 shooting was a "wake up call" forofficers and residents not to let minor incidents go unchecked.

Staff sergeant Peter Moreira says police now work closely withresidents on preventing violence in what he calls a decentneighbourhood.

Police have said the shooting was triggered when members of theGalloway Boys gang allegedly took ownership of a barbecue and turnedaway a member of the rival Malvern crew.

That person then allegedly returned to the gathering with anumber of friends to confront the Galloway Boys, sparking theshootout.
