Family of deer trapped in Scarborough plaza since Tuesday

A family of deer hasbeen calling a vacant Scarborough plaza home after being trapped Tuesday afternoon.

A pregnant female deer and a male yearling were seen around theEglintonAvenue and Kennedy Road area on Tuesday, when the deer reportedly came into contact with a car.

Both the male and female escapedthe collision and made their way into a fenced-off area behind a cluster of stores on Eglinton.

The gate closed and locked behind the deer, trapping them inside.

It appears the male deer suffered some injuries.

The family grew to three on Wednesday when the female gave birth to a fawn.

Toronto wildlife officials were on the scene Wednesday, but as of midday Thursday the deer remained trapped.

Tammy Robbinson, aspokesperson for Toronto Animal Services, told CBC Torontothat they are working with the TorontoWildlife Centre to address the situation.

In order to deal with the deer safely, she said, the wildlife officialsneed the area to be as calm as possible.

They are asking that members of thepublic keep a safe distance away for the next 24 hours so that there is no interference with the rescue.
