Toronto police investigating 2 separate homicides overnight

Toronto police are investigating two separate homicides in the city late Monday and early Tuesday, one a shooting and the other a stabbing.

Fatal shooting, stabbing happened about 25 minutes apart

Toronto police are investigating two separate homicides in the city late Monday and early Tuesday.

The first, a fatal shooting, happenedshortly before midnight in the area of Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue Westin North York.

A man in his 20swas found with gunshot wounds in a plaza parking lot, Duty Insp. Todd Jocko said.

Paramedics took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The second homicide, a stabbing, happened just over 20 minutes later at around 12:20 a.m. outside a diner near the corner of Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue West.

Officers found the victim and along with paramedics attempted to save his life, Jockosaid. The manwas pronounced dead at the scene.

Jocko did not provide any further information about either of the deceased, nor any suspect descriptions.

He noted that it has been a particularly violent few days in the city, with five homicides and multiple shootings.

"It's deeply concerning and we understand the community is alarmed. Our officers are working around the clock to investigate these situations," Jocko said.

Anyone with video or information that could assist police in either case is asked to contact investigators or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
