Police have identified a man who died after a shooting in Toronto earlier this month as Marvin Baah, 26. The victim was found behind an apartment building near Clearview Heights and Trethewey Drive on Oct. 7 and died in hospital. CBCs Chris Glover has the latest.

Toronto police have identified the victim of a shooting in the city's northwest last week as 26-year old Marvin Baah.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Det. Sgt. Tiffany Castell implored anyone with information about the case to come forward both for the sake of the investigation and for the Toronto man's family.

"Contact us. Do the right thing and let us know what happened to Mr. Baah," she said.

Police received multiple 911 calls on the evening of Oct. 7, Castell said, about a shooting at a low-rise apartment building at 83 Clearview Heights, in the area of Black Creek and Tretheway drives.

Officers from 12 Divisionfound Baah with gunshot wounds, behind the building in a tenant parking lot.

"They made attempts to save his life at [the] scene, and those attempts were continued when he was en route to hospital via emergency run," Castell said. "Unfortunately at [the] hospital he was, in fact, pronounced deceased."

Investigators believe Baah was shot in the rear stairwell of the building before he was found in the parking lot. However, Castell said, they are operating with limited information as there is little security footage around the building, and few people have come forward to speak to police.

"What I know at this point is minimal," she said. "We've been investigating since Monday, Oct. 7, and there are very few witnesses who have come forward."

Based on the "minimal" video police have been able to track down, there were many people in the parking lot on the night Baah died, Castell said.

"There are many people in our city who are aware of what happened to Mr. Baah," she said.

The victim didn't live in the building and was just visiting, she said.

Police could not say if the incident was targeted and did not have any suspect descriptions to provide.

Castell said Baah's family has told her he was a student, as well as a "lovely gentleman" who adored his family and friends.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
