More GO trains, buses between Brampton and Toronto

Metrolinx will beef up its GO service between Brampton's Mount Pleasant and downtown's Union stations starting September 8, with 14 additional train trips and new bus trips.

The increased daytime service, announced by Metrolinx executives, Ontario transportation minister Steven Del Duca and Brampton mayor Linda Jeffrey, was introduced as a piece of the transit plan for the Toronto suburb. Speaking at the Mount Pleasant GO station, Jeffrey said her vision for Brampton transit includes Hurontario-Main LRT project, a Queen rapid transit line, and her pledge to get "two-way, all-day" GO train service to the region.

The 14 new trips will be during off-peak midday hours from Monday to Friday seven eastbound trips to Union Station and seven westbound trips to Mount Pleasant station. Metrolinx will shift one existing eastbound trip from Bramalea station to Mount Pleasant station.

Bruce McCuaig, president and CEO of Metrolinx, said the trains will double volume of midday service.

McCuaig added that the additional trips will "make it easier for people to choose transit first."

The service will include an undeclared increase in bus trips from Mount Pleasant.

The added trips are credit to the Georgetown South project, said McCuaig, along with work along the Kitchener GO Line corridor and agreements with CN, the owner of the rail corridor through Brampton.
