Police accuse man of unprotected sex without revealing HIV status

Toronto police have arrested a 28-year-old HIV positive man and charged him with attempted murder and aggravated assault.Police allege the man had unprotected sex and failed to disclose his status to his partner.

Sahand Mahmoodi was arrested and charged on Thursday.He will appear in court next week.

In the meantime police are asking other people who may have had sex with Mahmoodi to come forward.

"He did frequent theChurch and Wellesley area," said Const. Brad Stapleton with the Toronto police sex crimes unit. "We know he had sexual activities with other individuals and we have reason to believe he may not have disclosed his HIV status at that time."

Police are also investigating Mahmoodi's online activities they believe he frequented gay chat rooms with the intentions of finding sexual partners.

Mahmoodi, according to police, has been aware of his HIV status since 2000.

"We are appealing to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. If you had any contact with this male, contact the Toronto sex crime unit," Stapleton said.
