For the second year in a row, CBC Radio's Metro Morning is on the lookout for the Torontonian of the year.

The call is out for Toronto residents who are making a positive impact in their communities.

Nominee: Albert Koehl

Albert Koehl is a cycling advocate and environmental lawyer who helped bring bike lanes to Bloor Street West this summer. He is also the co-founder of Bells on Bloor, a volunteer organization that leads group rides and pushes for cycling infrastructure.

Koehl told Matt Galloway on Metro Morning that his approach to tackling big problems facing the city think climate change and break it down into smaller pieces.

"If we reduce [problems] to a local scale, we can do all these things to make our little corner of the earth a better place," he said.

Koehl is known on his street as someone who's always organizing something. He was nominated by his neighbour Libbie Mills, who first met Koehl when he invited her to a fundraiser in his backyard the day after she moved in.

With Koehl, Mills said, "so much gets done."

"He does it quietly. He's this gracious person who gets people on board."

Koehlhas also served on the Ontario Chief Coroner's expert panel on pedestrian safety.
