York Regional Police are investigating thefatal stabbing of a man involved in a vehicle theft inRichmond Hill Thursday morning.

Around 6 a.m. Thursday, police say they were called to a local hospital after a man arrived with a stab wound. The victim was accompanied by two other men, police say, one of whom left as soon as they dropped off the victim.

The victim died shortly after, police say. His identity is still unknown, police say, but police will share it with the public once it's confirmed.

Investigators later determined the victim and two othermen were involved in a vehicle theft earlier that morning, at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Kersey Street, YRP spokesperson Const. Lisa Moskaluk said Friday.

The man who stayed at the hospital, a 19-year-old from Montreal, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000, Moskaluk said.

The stolen vehicle was recovered later in the day Thursday, Moskaluk said, in a Toronto underground parking lot near Weston Road and Sheppard Avenue W. Video surveillance in the area showed an unknown suspect exit the vehicle there and leave the area on foot, she said.

Moskaluk said police have little information on the stabbing, including the exact location where it occurred, and are asking anyone with any information of the incident to come forward.

She said the male who left the hospital is not currentlya suspect in the vehicle theft or stabbing, but police are hoping to speak to him.

"We don't know his involvement," she said.

"He's just someone that we'd like to talk to that may have information about where this occurred, what happened, and he may be able to fill in those blanks for us."

Moskaluksaid police believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and "there is no concern or risk to the public."
