A Scarborough woman hit by a vehicle on the Western University campus last week has since died.

Andrea Christidis, 18, died days after she sustained injuries when struck by an alleged drunk driver while walking on the sidewalk Wednesday night. A 24-year-old London, Ont., man had initially been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm stemming from the crash, The London Free Press and other media outlets reported Saturday.

Christidis began studying health sciences at Western University in September.

"This is a terrible tragedy and Andrea's death saddens me deeply," the school's president Amit Chakma said in a statement released Saturday. "I know that I speak for the entire Western community when I say that my heart goes out to her family and friends."

The statement also reminded students and faculty that counselling services are available on campus.
