Man, 22, seriously injured in shooting near Main and Danforth

A 22-year-old man was seriously injured after being shot while sitting in a car near the Danforth Sunday afternoon.

Police say they were called to Byng and Denton just before 4:30 p.m.

A 22-year-old man has been seriously injured after being shot while sitting in a car near the Danforth Sundayafternoon.

Toronto police said the man was the driver of the vehicle, which also contained a female passenger who appears to have beenunhurt.

Police first received calls about shots fired intheDenton Avenue andByngAvenue just before 4:30 p.m. They located the bullet-ridden cara short distance away at Main Street and Danforth Avenue.

"I was sitting in my kitchen and all of a sudden I heard like six or seven gunshots," Dave Currier, who lives in the area, told CBC News.

The man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuriesto the leg and arm and wastransported to a trauma centre in stable condition,Deputy Commander Jamie Rodgers of Toronto Paramedics said.

Danforth Avenue was closed in both directionsas police investigated but has since reopened.

There is no word on a suspect at this time.

Police are asking anyone who might have been in the area at the time to come forward with information about what they may have seen or heard

"Any little thing that might not seem important to them those details are always helpful to us," Douglas-Cook said.

For his part, Currier says the brazen daylight shooting makes him worry for his family's safety.

"This is scary," he said. "It's around the time that my wife would be out walking the dogs and the last thing I need for her is to be an innocent bystander."
