A man is dead and the province's police watchdog has invoked its mandate after a call for a disturbance at a Maltonhome Tuesday evening.

Peel police responded to "a domestic call" ata home on Morning Star Drive near Cambrett Drive shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Officers had "an interaction" with a man that "involved the use of a conducted energy weapon," the release went on.

The man "went vital signs absent," was transported to hospital and was pronounced dead, the release said.

The SIU release did not reveal the man's identity, but said he was 34 years old.

No further details on what happened were immediately available.

The SIU probes police interactions that lead to a civilian's death, injury or allegations of sexual assault.

The release said five investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the incident. There are two subject officers and one witness officer, the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SIU.
