Sounds of the Season donations climb past $340K

CBC Toronto opened its doors Friday for a day of programming to raise money and collect donations for local food banks.

Over 2,770 kg of food also collected for local food banks

CBC Toronto openedits doors Friday for a day of live radio and TV broadcasts, musical performancesand meet-and-greets with your favourite CBC stars all to raise money and collect donations for local food banks.

As of 9 p.m., Sounds of the Season raised $344,492 and collected2773 kg ofdonated food.

"This is my favourite event of the year," said Daily Bread Food Bank executive director Gail Nyberg during an interview on Here and Now. "This city and the people around the city are so generous."

A special edition of Here and Nowwasbroadcast live from the Glenn Gould Studio, featuring music by the Wexford Gleeks, Julian Taylor Band, and Eliana Cuevas, among others.

Earlier Friday,Metro Morningalso featured musical guests likeSerena Ryder, Shawn Hook and Maestro.

Mayor John Tory also stopped by Metro Morningto talk about poverty reduction.

"The ultimate goal is to have inclusive prosperity where you can make sure where people all have a job, have the training to get in the system," Tory said. "In the meantime, we do things like our student nutrition program, which will help 300,000 kids this year."
