Word in the film industry is that theStar Trek production will boldly go somewhere it's never gone before outside of Los Angeles.

Earlier this week, TrekNewsreported that CBS booked a facility in Toronto as early as last September to shoot the new series, citing reports from entertainment news site Pop Goes The News.

The possibility is thrilling local fans, who took to Twitter to share their excitement.

But in an email to CBC News, the network's vice president of communicationsKristen Hall said CBS has not yetin fact confirmed the location for the shooting location of the newseries.

Still, local film industry insiders are hopeful.

"We want it," said Nick Iannelli, senior vice president of the post production company Deluxe.

Iannelli says the company has the technology to make it easy for producers working in Los Angeles to connect with their Toronto counterparts.

"They can go home and when it's time to listen to a mix, they can go to one of our studios in LA and we can do a live link for them."

Cinespace Film Studios vice-president Jim Mirkopolousis making his pitch for the franchise to film in Toronto, too.

"We've had lots of experience with sci-fi shows in Toronto," he said. "If it were to land here, it would certainly be a strong statement of confidence in our industry and our crews."

If the city does become the next Star Trek hub, Toronto may just have its mayor to thank.

In February, John Tory carried out a mission of his own to Los Angeles to attract more big-budget blockbusters and productions to the city.
