Dhan Balachand, the chief executive officer of Sulon, told CBC News that the Cortex has been in development for several years.

"What it does is, it actually scans your physical environment around you indoors or outdoors and it transforms that environment into what we call an augmented virtual reality experience," he said.

It's a device that won rave reviews at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
