Suspect in stolen bike ring now faces drug charges

The man accused of operating a bike theft ring in Toronto is now facing drug charges.

Igor Kenk, 49,was arrested July 16 and charged with 60 offences in connection with stolen bicycles.When he appeared for a bail hearing on Wednesday, police added marijuana possession and trafficking charges.

Police said they found aboutseven kilos of marijuana in two garages rented by Kenk, one on Dufferin Street, the other on College Street.

Kenk, the owner of The Bicycle Clinic at 927 Queen Street West,made only a brief appearance on Wednesday. Kenk's hearing is being moved to a larger court room, according to the clerk, becausehe is facing such a lengthy list of charges.

Kenk's wife Jeanie Chung turned herself into police and was also charged, as wasJean Laveau, 47.

Police say their investigation into stolen bicycles has turned up more than 3,000 bikes from Kenk's house, business and a number of garages he rented in the city's west-end.

As of Wednesday morning police said 335 people have recovered their bikes.

"While we are very pleased that 335 people have recovered their bikes so far, we would encourage anyone who has lost a bike to make every effort to visit the two locations where a large number of bikes are currently on display. Time is running out," said Supt. Ruth White in a statement.

Police are displaying the bikes at two locations until Thursday July 31: 35 Strachan Avenue and 30 Ordnance Street from noon to 8 p.m.
