Conflict remains between food trucks and established restaurants

Toronto food truck operators say they need more freedom. But traditional restaurants want to protect their turf and hot dog vendors fear more competition.

Both sides went to city hall on Thursday night to argue their sides before city staff, who are working on a new report on the rules governing the food truck business.

Among the changes staff are considering:

  • Offering a new, 6-month permit at half the cost of an annual permit.
  • Allowing trucks to stay parked in the same spot for five hours.
  • Allowing food trucks to operate on more city streets.
