The newest Toronto streetcars have begun hitting the streets.

They're here.

Some of the shiny new streetcars that will be taking TTC passengers across the city for years to come have finally hit the streets of Toronto.

"It's a huge day for Toronto," said TTC CEO Andy Byford, speakingof the launch on Sunday.

They'll be put to the test on Tuesday, when commuters pack into the new cars.

For now, transit users will only be seeing the new streetcars on Spadina Avenue. They'll show up on King Street within a few years.

TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said it will take about five years to get the streetcars running across the city's full transit network.
