AnUber car smashed into a taxi overnightin the downtown neighbourhood of Old Town, in what may be the most metaphorical collision in Toronto's recent history.

The womanUberdriver was charged with failing to yield to traffic on a thruway.

The collisionjust before 3 a.m. ET, at the intersection of King Street East and Princess Street, sent two people to hospital a 35-year-old male passenger in one vehicle, and a 45-year-old female in the other, although it's not immediately clear who was in which vehicle.

The collisioncoincides with the city's court attempttogainan injunction to shut downUber'soperations.A decision could come as early as today.

Taxi drivershave staged multiple demonstrations downtown and in front of the Ontario Legislature, as theridesharing service doesn't pay the same city operating fees as taxi companies do.

Similarly, theyargue that Uber puts the public at risk, as driversoperating under the company'sUberXservice which connects people seeking a ride with a private citizen willing to offer it in their personal vehicle are not eligible under the insurance plans that cover licensed taxi rides.
