1,800 trees planted by 1,000 people in Windsor

People planted 1,800 native trees and shrubs in the Little River Corridor in east Windsor on Sunday.

People planted 1,800 native trees and shrubs in the Little River Corridor in east Windsor on Sunday.

Salvina Foster and her two young daughters took part.

"It's important for the girls to understand our trees are very fragile, and we need to make sure that there's enough trees out there for the environment," she said.

The planting was part of belated Earth Day celebrations, which attracted about 1,000 people.

Karen and Charlie Morand and their fourth-grade son were part of the event, too.

"It's important to put back into the earth what we take away, and make it a better place," Karen said.

"Mostly, I think I'm teaching my son how to give back to the community," Charlie said.
