100,000 entertained at Bright Lights Windsor in its 2nd year

The lights are off and cleanup begins on Bright Lights Windsor.

The eventcaptivated crowds from Dec. 7 to Jan. 6 "on a grander scale than before," entertaining more than 100,000 people in its second year, according to a news release from the City of Windsor.

The city also saidthis year's display had more illumination and four times more displays than last year.

Improvements were based on feedback from 2017 and included paved pathways and vendors.

"Charity partners joined us on weekends and were very pleased with the community's giving spirit, seen through donations and keen interest in their work," the city said in a release, adding craft and food vendors sold out of their offerings and extended hours to meet demand.

The city said "social media buzzed with accounts of out-of-town visitors coming to Windsor," adding those visitors stayed in local hotels and ate at local restaurants a boost to Windsor's economy.

"The community can't wait (and neither can we) to see what Bright Lights Windsor has in store for next year!" said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and to everyone who visited us from near and far: it was truly magical, and we owe it all to you!"

More than 60,000 people attended last year's Bright Lights festivities.
