2 suffer hypothermia when jet ski overturns in Lake St. Clair

Two 18-year-old Lakeshore men were taken to hospital and treated for hypothermia after the jet ski they were operating became disable and overturned on Lake St. Clair on Sunday.

Two 18-year-old Lakeshore men were taken to hospital and treated for hypothermia after the jet ski they were operating became disable and overturned on Lake St. Clair on Sunday.

The incident happened at approximately 2:15 p.m.

The two men were riding the jet ski from Pike Creek to Belle River when it became disabled and eventually overturned amid high waves. One of the men was able to contact his father who contacted police.

The OPP marine unit was dispatched and was able to pull the men from the lake. With the help of a police escort, they were taken to hospital in Windsor.

It was estimated that the water temperature at the time was 1 C or 34 F.
