Adventure Bay sees increase in personal thefts this summer

Adventure Bay has been dealing with an increased number of thefts this summer.

The city-run water park had 23 thefts reported to it during June and July.

That's more than twice as many as the downtown facility saw over the same period last summer.

Cell phones and cash have been the prime targets for thieves.

And while the water park has cameras installed, those cameras are not located within change rooms for privacy reasons.

Jennifer Knights of Adventure Bay said it appears the recent theft issues may be related to a single individual.

"The water park is in summer operations, so we tend to see more people during the day,"she told CBC News. "And there were two days where we had a series of thefts happen, we believe by the same person, in a close period of time."

Knights suggests that visitors should leave their valuables at home, or use a sturdy lock.

Windsor police Sgt. Matt D'Asti said these types of thefts are presumed to be opportunistic.

D'Asti offers similar advice to the water park it's best to leave valuables at home, when possible.
