Senior dead after single-vehicle crash in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent police say a 77-year-old driver has died after a collision on Highway 40 on Wednesday morning. The driver's vehicle was the only vehicle involved.

Chatham-Kent police say a 77-year-old driver has died as a result of a single-vehicle collision on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 11:15 a.m. north of Chatham on Highway 40 (St. Clair Road), south of Countryview Line.

The stretch of roadway is a two-lane county road with a posted speed limit of 80 km/h. There's a golf course immediately next to it.

Chatham-Kent EMS, firefighters, and Elgin County OPP responded to the crash scene.

Thedriver was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Elgin County OPP are continuing to investigate.

As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, the section of Highway 40 between Countryview Line and Claymore Line remained closed while traffic incident specialistsexamined the scene.
