Ebola crisis leads to changes at Windsor Regional Hospital

Windsor Regional Hospital insists it has taken all advanced precautions provided by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in its preparedness in the event an Ebola case should be detected.

The hospital says internal training of staff for first contact has been underway and will continue over the next few weeks.

Windsor Regional Hospital now wants patients to notify staff if they have travelled outside Canada in the past 30 days and have a fever, cough, nausea, rash or diarrhea.

If a person in Windsor contracted Ebola, he or she would be transferred to an Ebola safe hospital out of Windsor, possibly London.

Last week, Ontario's Health Ministry announced it isenhancingpreparations to fight Ebola and designated 10 hospitals as referral centres in the event the virus becomes an issue in the province.

However, at a news conference Monday, Windsor Regional Hospital staff said a transportation plan for a patient will Ebola is not yet in place.

Monday, the hospital displayed personal protection equipment staff would wear in the event of an Ebola patient being treated.
