E.C. Row reopened from Lauzon Parkway to Central Avenue after police investigate grenade

Windsor police have reopened portions of E.C. Row Expressway following an investigation into a "suspicious package" on Rhodes Drive that was later confirmed to be a grenade.

The highway was closed in both directions between LauzonParkway and Central Avenue, whilethearea of the 5000 block of Rhodes Drive was also closed,just west of Jefferson Boulevard.

According to Windsor police, patrol officers were dispatched around 12 p.m. after a citizen found a grenade in the 5000 block of Rhodes Drive.

"Officers located the grenade, established a perimeter and shut down a portion of E.C. Row Expressway and Rhodes Drive to ensure public safety," reads an excerpt from a Friday media release.

Officers with the force's explosive disposal unit arrived at the scene, rendering the grenade "safe" at approximately 3 p.m.

Police tweeted about the closure at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday, confirming the reopened roadways around 3:30 p.m.

"Initial observations of the grenade suggests that it may have been there for some time," wrote Windsor police, in the same Friday media release.

An investigation is ongoing.
