The elimination of thethird shift at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Windsor Assembly Plant has been pushed back to Oct. 21, 2019 as a result of a fleet order.

Unifor Local 444 made the announcement in a June 25 Facebook post. Local 444 president Dave Cassidy confirmed that the original Sept. 30 date no longer applies.

"The company informed us today that we got a fleet order that just came in," said Cassidy, adding that he wasn't able to provide additional information about the source of the order.

"I don't know anything other than they're extending [the third shift] for three weeks."

Approximately 1,500 employees were set to lose their jobs at the end of September.

Cassidy said that the union is continuing to "put pressure on the company and the government to not eliminate the third shift and we're working through that."
