The new museum space being created on the first floor of the art gallery will bear the Chimczuk name.

Joseph Chimczuk died 24 years ago, and left the City of Windsor $1 million in his will.

He specified the money had to be used to build a new museum, and that it had to be named after him.

That estate has grown since then, and is now worth $3.3 million.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says the Chimczuk Museum will allow Windsorites to take pride in the history of their community.

"All the artifacts from Windsor's history and things from the rum-running days, things from the old family farms that used to be here [will be on display]," Dilkens said.

The Chimczuk Museum is expected to open in October.
